    1. expose a faulty system for rating web hosting companies;
    2. promote a more accurate and honest system;
    3. promote web hosting companies that have proven themselves to be dependable;
    4. help you to understand a little about web hosting awards.

How Are Web Hosting Companies Rated?

Does the following look familiar?

There's no shortage of websites that make such claims.

Here's a challenge:

Visit some of those sites and compare which web hosting companies are at the top of thier lists. Then compare which ones are listed second, third, etc.

Ask yourself: "Why are these lists so different?" Better yet - look up those web hosting companies in this directory and see what the Better Business Bureau has to say about them.

The fact is, too many people have their own system for rating web hosting companies. And few of them consider what's best for the consumer. Most of the "rating" websites rank web hosting companies according to which ones sell the most or have the highest sales commissions. In other words, the web hosting company that makes the site owner the most money gets the best rating.

That's why I only trust ratings from the Better Business Bureau. They're the only ratings you'll find on this site. And web hosts with the highest BBB ratings are the only ones you'll see advertised here.

So here's my "Best Hosting" list: Web Hosts Rated "A" or Better by the BBB.

What About Web Hosting Awards?

But StartLogic has an "F" rating from the Better Business Bureau! (Click on the rating to visit the BBB's page on StartLogic.)

It's actually normal for some of the worst-rated (by the BBB) web hosting companies to display awards on their websites. The web hosting industry gives itself a lot of awards. Some are earned. Some are questionable.

So what else can be said about web hosting awards? Well, they look impressive. As does the other advertising and claims that are displayed. But if you want the truth, look a little deeper. That's what the BBB does.

More On These "Highly Rated" Web Hosting Companies

Impressive advertising and high ratings for a bad company caused me to use StartLogic to host my sites. That was the beginning of years of problems and frustration. My sites went down frequently, applications wouldn't work on them, and technical support wasn't much help.

I could almost write a book about the problems I've had with StartLogic. Yet it's still a big seller on many websites - still getting good ratings (not from the BBB).

And it isn't just one bad web host that's getting high ratings. Following are some web hosting companies that you see advertised a lot, and rated high on many websites. But notice the Better Business Bureau ratings for those sites. (Click on the ratings to visit the BBB's page on that company.)

Do some of these names look familiar? They should. Their deceptive advertising is everywhere. And some website owners are making a fortune by selling these, and other, sub-standard services.

If you believe their bull, there's a good chance you'll have some of the same bad experiences that I've had. And that's why I created this website.
